Biography

2008-09 (Junior)

Gibson continued to play an important role for the Aggies as a junior. He averaged 14.1 points per game in 2008-09, which ranked second on the team and 10th in the WAC. As a 30-game starter, Gibson surpassed the 20-point plateau five times. He posted a 42.6 field goal percentage and a 38.7 3-point field goal percentage and ranked third on the squad in assists with 65 while tied for the team-best 44 steals. Gibson led the Aggies in scoring in three games with a season-best 22 points against New Mexico (Dec. 30) and in both games of the WAC Tournament, with 22 points versus Boise State (March 12) and 16 against Utah State (March 13). He posted double-digit scoring performances in the first eight games of the year and 26-of-30 contests as a junior. Against Pepperdine (Nov. 21), Gibson recorded his first 20-point showing of the season along with tying a career-best seven assists. He followed that showing with 16 points and a season-high four steals at No. 25 Kansas (Dec. 3). Gibson again scored 20 points against Loyola Marymount (Dec. 28) on 4-of-6 shooting from behind the arc. In the second meeting of the season with the Lobos, he grabbed a season-high five rebounds to go along with his 22 points on a 50 percent performance from the field. Gibson scored 11 points at San Jose State (Jan. 5) and 18 against Nevada (Jan. 8) to open WAC play before he posted six consecutive games in double figures that started against Idaho (Jan. 15) and concluded at Utah State (Feb. 5). Gibson ended his junior campaign with double-digit performances in the final seven games of the year. Additionally, he was sharpest from long range in the last four games of the season as he made 17-of-29 from the 3-point line.

 

2007-08 (Sophomore)

In his second season with the Aggies, Gibson was a significant contributor when he appeared in all 35 games. He started in 32 games and averaged 12.2 points per game, which was second on the team. Gibson was a scoring threat as he shot 45.4 percent from the field, 41.9 from the 3-point line and 75.6 percent at the free-throw line. He scored in double-figures in 24 games and reached the 20-point or more plateau on five occasions. Gibson led the Aggies in scoring eight times. Gibson also fueled the offense with 55 assists. He provided 33 steals, a mark that ranked second on the squad. In the WAC, Gibson ranked fifth in 3-point field goals made (2.23 per game) and sixth in 3-point field goal percentage (41.9). He was the highest ranking underclassman in both categories. After opening the season with 16 points at Ohio (Nov. 9), he had double-digit scoring showings in all four games of the Legends Classic. He scored 12 points against UC Davis (Nov. 14), 20 points against LeMoyne-Owen (Nov. 18), 21 points versus No. 15/16 Texas (Nov. 23) and 14 points versus West Virginia (Nov. 24). Gibson had a six-game streak in double-figures beginning with a game-high 18 points against Prairie View A&M (Dec. 11). He followed that performance with 19 points at New Mexico (Dec. 19). At Louisville (Dec. 22), Gibson recorded a near triple-double with 12 points along with a career-best eight rebounds and seven assists. He also scored 13 against Alcorn State (Dec. 31), 16 at Idaho (Jan. 2) and 17 against Fresno State (Jan. 5) in that six-game span. In the first meeting of the year with Utah State (Jan. 12), Gibson scored a game-high 22 points in Logan, Utah. Two weeks later, he scored 22 points in the rematch with Utah State (Jan. 26) that was broadcast nationally on ESPN2. At San Jose State (Feb. 2), Gibson had 19 points including the game-winning basket with two second left. Gibson then scored 17 points against Idaho (Feb. 6) before he tallied a career-high 24 points against Boise State (Feb. 9), which was the third consecutive game that he scored in double-digits. The Aggies ended the season winning 10 of the final 12 games and Gibson was in double-figures in nine of those contests. In the triple overtime thriller against Boise State (March 15) in the WAC title game, Gibson played a career-high 51 minutes and contributed 15 points.

 

2006-07 (Freshman)

Gibson made an immediate impact for the Aggies as a freshman. In 31 games, Gibson averaged 2.6 points per game and finished with 22 assists. He scored in double-figures four times and had at least two points in 11 games. Gibson involved his teammates as he had at least one assist in 13 games. Gibson shot 33.8 percent from the field and hit 10-of-35 3-pointers while hitting 67.7 percent from the free-throw line. At No. 15 Arizona (Nov. 19), Gibson had the first breakout game of his career as he finished with 12 points. Gibson was 4-for-6 from the field and a perfect 3-of-3 from the free-throw line. Gibson made his first career start at New Mexico (Nov. 28). In a win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff (Dec. 11), Gibson had 10 points and four rebounds in 18 minutes off the bench. Gibson scored in double-figures in back-to-back games against Western New Mexico (Dec. 21) and Norfolk State (Dec. 28). He had 12 points and five rebounds versus the Mustangs before he scored 13 points against Norfolk State. In a win over Idaho (Jan. 24), Gibson came off the bench to add five points and three assists against the Vandals. From March 1 to March 16, Gibson scored in six consecutive games to close out the season. In the WAC Tournament title game versus Utah State (March 10), Gibson scored two late points on a reverse lay-up to help the Aggies secure their first WAC title. In his first NCAA Tournament appearance, Gibson scored two points on 2-for-2 shooting from the free-throw line in nine minutes.

 

High School

Gibson came to NM State after graduating from Calvary Christian Prep School. As a senior, Gibson averaged 23.3 points and 7.1 assists while guiding Calvary Christian to a 22-3 record. Gibson was also a force defensively as he averaged 5.2 rebounds and 3.1 steals per game. He was named the most valuable player of the San Antonio League and a first team all-conference selection. In high school, Gibson was featured in Slam Magazine and participated in various camps, including the ABCD, adidas? and all-American camps. A variety of scouting services named him one of the top 30 high school players in the country coming out of high school.

He is from West Covina, Calif., and is the son of James and Mary Gibson. He is majoring in general business.
