What is S.A.A.C.?

The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (S.A.A.C.) consists of representatives from each intercollegiate athletic team at NM State. The committee members are selected by their teammates and/or coach. Regular meetings every other week consist of discussions on any new developments with the NCAA, Western Athletic Conference and NM State that affects student-athletes.

The Committee also serves as a liaison between athletics administrators and student-athletes. Representatives from the Committee attend one to two Western Athletic Conference S.A.A.C. meeting each academic year, and one student-athlete is selected to attend the National Student-Athlete Development Conference in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. At least once per semester, the Committee also meets with the Athletics Council to discuss pertinent academic/student-athlete issues on the NM State campus.

The NM State S.A.A.C. has been influential on the NM State campus in various ways to help student-athletes, such as initiating the university excused absence policy that was passed in 1998, and participating in university & community service projects;

NM State SAAC Mission Statement

The NM State SAAC will be guided by ethics, fairness, and a respect for diversity, which shall include attention to gender, race, ethnicity, and sport. Representatives of this committee will attend meetings and represent the institution, athletics department, and sport in an honest and fair manner.

Representatives are expected to share all relevant information with their teammates following the meetings.

Representatives must participate in planned SAAC events throughout the academic year. Excused absences will only be given for team travel or participation in a home athletics contest.

Representatives will elect a President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary each year.

NM State SAAC Officers responsibilities:

1. President and Vice President will lead SAAC meetings and provide relevant information to other SAAC representatives.

2.  President and Vice President will prepare and distribute proposals to institutional administration, and meet with administrators when necessary.
