El Paso, Texas – The New Mexico State men’s golf won its second tournament of the week, the Price’s Give Em Five Invitational by 11 strokes at the par-72, 7,307-yard Butterfield Trail Golf Club. The Aggies carded three-round score of 28-over par, 836. In the final round, the Aggies were 3-under par, 285.
“We had an unbelievable week,” head coach Mike Dirks said. “To win our first tournament at home then go down to El Paso and win a second tournament was really special. I’m extremely proud of these guys.”
NM State has three finishers in the top-10 and four in the top-15.
“With these two wins is shows that we are starting to believe in ourselves,” Dirks said. “Knowing that we should be in that final group with a chance to win a tournament is a big accomplishment for this team.”
Kenneth Fadke II led NM State with a three-round score of 8-under par, 208 (70-69-69). He finished fifth overall. Brett Walker, finished tied for sixth overall with a three-round score of 7-under par, 209 (70-67-72), marking his second top-10 finish of the week.
Pat Beyhan also finished the tournament tied for sixth at 7-under par, 209 (69-67-73). Travis Benson was 3-under par, 213 (69-70-74) for the tournament, finishing in a tie for 13th overall.
Willy Hogan rounded out the Aggies’ team scores with a three-round score of 7-over par, 223 (77-75-71). Hogan finished tied for 47th overall.
NM State had three individuals in the tournament. Luis Medina led that group with a three-round score of 6-over par, 222, followed by Joey Martinez at 10-over par, 226 and Zach Adams at 11-over par, 227.
Following NM State on the team leaderboard was Colorado (-17), San Jose State (-11), Kansas (-10) and UTEP (-5). UTEP’s Martin Simonsen won the individual title at 12-under par.
The Aggies are now finished with their fall season and will be back in action on Jan. 27-28 at the Arizona Intercollegiate in Tucson, Ariz.
