ARLINGTON, Texas—The New Mexico State track and field team scored 96.50 points and claimed sixth place in the 2013 WAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships, Saturday, May 11.

Senior Kelsey Brennan claimed first place for the third time in her career while setting a new school record in the javelin throw.  Brennan earned 10 points for the Aggies with her throw of 157-09 (48.08m) and passed Randi Grimes throw of 156-08 (47.77m) for the record.

Sophomore Tiffany Gerber finished sixth in the javelin throw and earned three points for the Aggies with her throw of 132-09 (40.47m), while fellow sophomore Nicolette Serrao also earned one point with her throw of 129-11 (39.60m).

In the triple jump junior Horlexus Willis finished sixth overall with a jump of 38-09 (11.81m) and earned three points for the Aggies.

Sophomore Taylor Black finished third in the pole vault and earned 5.50 points with her jump of 11-00.25 (3.36m).

In the 400-meter hurdles junior Zoe Meade finished fourth with a time of 1:01.26.  Meade improved to second in the record books for the Aggies, passing Maria Spencer and her time of 1:01.27.

“Zoe (Meade) worked her tail off, first competing in the multi-event then qualifying for the hurdles and also ran a great leg in the 4x400,” said head coach Orin Richburg.

NM State took third place in the 4x100-meter relay and earned six points.  Senior LaSasha Aldredge, juniors Alishia Perkins and Brianna Cromartie and sophomore Kendra Walker ran the event for the Aggies and finished with a time of 45.52 and moved up to fourth all-time for NM State in the record books.

The team of Aldredge, Perkins, Meade and Cromartie finished third in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:41.66 and earned six points for the Aggies.

Cromartie competed in the 400-meter dash and finished third with a time of 54.94 earning six points for NM State.  She also earned four points with a fifth place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.00.

Perkins competed in the 100-meter dash and earned two points in her seventh place finish with a time of 11.89.  In the 200-meter dash, Perkins finished second with a time of 23.91 and earned eight points for the Aggies.

In the 200-meter dash, Aldredge earned five points for the team in a fourth place finish with a time of 23.99.

Sophomore Diana Hawk finished fourth in the 1,500-meter run, with a time of 4:32.84 and earned five points for NM State.

Texas State took home the WAC Championship with 179 points.  The Aggies fell four points shy of taking fourth place from UTSA (100.50).

“We will go back and talk to the girls about this sort of championship atmosphere,” said coach Richburg, “But now we start to shift our focus to recruiting for next season.”
