Phoenix, Ariz. – The New Mexico State men’s golf team is currently tied for seventh overall after round one of the ASU Thunderbird Invitational at the par-71, 7,031-yard Karsten Golf Course. The Aggies carded a team score of 5-over par, 289 in round one.

Senior Justin Shin led NM State on day one with an even-par, 71. He carded two birdies on the day and is currently tied for 16th overall.

Senior Derek Baade and freshman Kenneth Fadke each shot opening rounds of 1-over par, 72. Baade recorded a team-high four birdies on the day and is tied for 28th, while Fadke has two birdies on the day and is also tied for 28th.


Junior Willy Hogan fired a 3-over par, 74, with one birdie, placing him tied for 51st after round one. Sophomore Brett Walker rounded out the Aggie competitors with an opening round score of 4-over par, 75. Walker had just one birdie on the day and is tied for 60th.

New Mexico leads the team tournament at 8-under par, followed by San Diego State (-3), UNLV (-1), California (E) and Oregon State (E). Nick Chianello of Oregon State is atop of the leader board at 7-under par after round one.

The Aggies and the rest of the field will be back in action Saturday morning with a shot gun start slated for 8 a.m.
