Goodyear, Ariz. – The New Mexico State men’s golf team competed in the first round of the 2013 Desert Shootout, Thursday, shooting a team score of 2-over par, 286, placing them in a tie for 11th overall after round one. The Aggies are playing 18 holes each day at the 7,015-yard, par 72 Palm Valley Golf Course.
Senior Derek Baade led the Aggies on day one with a 3-under par, 68. He currently sits in a tie for sixth overall. Junior Willy Hogan carded an even par, 71 in round one as he sits in a tie for 31st.
Senior Justin Shin was 2-over par, 73 in round and is tied for 57th overall, while freshman Kenneth Fadke II sits in a tie for 65th overall after a first round score of 3-over par, 74.
Freshman Joey Martinez rounded out the Aggie competitors with a 4-over par, 75, placing him in a tie for 70th.
Tulsa leads the team scoring with a 10-under par, followed by BYU (-9), Denver (-4), Colorado State (-4) and Southern Utah (-4). Thomas Pieters of Illinois leads the tournament at 6-under par.
The Aggies will be back on the course beginning at 8:30 a.m. for a shot gun start of the second round of play.
