DENVER (Jan. 29) - The
New Mexico State softball team was picked to finish third overall in the 2013
Western Athletic Conference preseason poll, while two Aggies were named to the
preseason All-WAC team, the conference announced Tuesday.
Senior standouts Amber Olive and Teresa Conrad were named to
the all-conference team, marking the second honor for Conrad and first for
Olive. The preseason All-WAC team is selected by the coaches in the conference.
Olive finished her
junior campaign leading the Aggies with a .374 hitting average with 67 hits on
the season for a .419 slugging percentage. She collected 29 runs for NM State,
another team high for 2012 while playing in each of the Aggies 51 games during
the season. She worked for nine stolen bases and 13 RBI for the Aggies while
striking out just nine times on the year. She had a season-high of four hits
against Seton Hall (3/3) with two steals.
Starting 41 games
for the Aggies during her junior campaign, Conrad tallied 10 runs and seven RBI
in her 48 games on the season. She crossed the plate three times in the Aggies
win over No. 14 Arizona and picked up her lone homer of the season. Starting
the majority of conference play at the shortstop position, Conrad picked up two
doubles and three runs with three RBI against Nevada, helping the team to a
12-4 win over the Wolfpack.
Along with the individual honor the Aggies received, the
team was selected to finish third overall in the WAC behind Texas State and San
Jose State. New to the conference this year, the Texas State Bobcats claimed
the Southland Conference title in 2012 and received five votes for this year's
