LAS CRUCES , N.M.
(Dec. 6, 2012) - New Mexico State head baseball coach recently announced
the signing of eight student-athletes to national letters of intent to attend
and play baseball at NM State starting next fall.
The list of players includes Las Cruces native and Oñate
High School student-athlete, Julian Herdia.
Joining Heredia as a part of the early-signing class are Kyle
Rutherford, William Conrad, Kyle Sachrison, Chadwick Ramsey, Ben Slater, Austin
Von Blasingame and Joshua Belch.
"I am very pleased with our signing class. We were able to
fill several spots from players who will be graduating after this season with
very talented athletes who are also very good students," head coach Rocky Ward
said. "This group of players will all be ready to impact our team as soon
as they set foot on campus. "
The Aggies open the 2013 season with the Annual Alumni game,
Feb. 9 at Presley Askew Field before opening the regular-season against
Wisconsin-Milwaukee on Feb. 15 at home.
2012 Early Signing
Julian Heredia - Heredia
is the cousin of former Aggie pitcher Adam Heredia (2010) and is a Las Cruces
native who has played various positions throughout his high school career. The NM State coaching staff was impressed
with Heredia's defensive skill level, especially behind the plate.
Kyle Rutherford -
Rutherford is heading into his senior
year at Frenship High School in Wolfforth, Texas. He is a three-year letter winner and was
named a District 3-4A first team selection as a starting pitcher after the 2012
season. He finished the year with 47
strikeouts, and a 5-2 record. Rutherford
threw a no-hitter against Hereford High School last season as well.
William Conrad - Conrad
is a 6-5, 225 pound pitcher from Royal High School in Simi Valley, Calif. He was on the 2012 Oxnard College baseball
roster after he left Moorpark College in 2011.
While in high school, Conrad posted a .350 career batting average with
three home runs and 55 RBIs. He led his team to a 2010 league championship and
a CIF semifinal appearance.
Kyle Sachrison - Kyle
Sachrison is a 6-7, 235 pound right-hand pitcher out of San Diego, Calif. He lettered in baseball at La Costa Canyon
High School in 2012 and led his team to a league championship and a CIF
Division II championship. Sachrison also
played basketball from 2010-12 and played in every game as a sophomore and
Chadwick Ramsey -
Chadwick Ramsey is an infielder/pitcher out of Needville High School in
Needville, Texas. He has played baseball
at Needville since 2009 and has earned four tournament MVP honors heading into
this season. Ramsey was named the team
MVP in 2012 and was named an all-district member twice.
Ben Slater - Slater
is a 6-1, 215 pound first baseman who played at Gateway Community College from
2011-12. After taking a red shirt in
2011 he was named the 2012 Arizona Community College Athletic Conference
(ACCAC) Offensive Player of the Week once while earning a NJCAA Academic
All-American honor. He played in 35
games during the 2012 season posting 29 hits, one home run and 19 RBIs to go
along with a .274 batting average.
Before entering junior college, Slater played at Glencoe-Sliver Lake
High School in Glencoe, Minn. from 2009-10. He tallied 35 hits in each of those
seasons and finished his career with eight home runs and 58 RBIs.
Austin Von Blasingame
- Blasingame is a 6-3 pitcher/outfielder out of Santa Margarita High School in
Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.
Joshua Belch - Belch
is a 6-0, 205 pound catcher who played under coach Matt Covey at Watertown High
School in Watertown, N.Y. In 2011, Belch
led his team to a 16-5 record and a second place Frontier League finish before
leading his team to a 16-6 record and a league championship in 2012. Belch marked a .464 batting average to go
along with 26 RBIs in 2011 and hit .492 with 28 RBIs in 2012. He also stole 18 bases on 24 attempts last
