LAS CRUCES, N.M. (Dec. 3)-New Mexico State swimming and diving head coach Rick Pratt has signed three swimmers to National Letters of Intent during the early signing period. Anna Brooks, Abbie Broome and Logan Morris are joining the Aggies in fall 2013.
"I am very excited about our three commitments this fall," Pratt said. "We still have a little more work to do for the late signing period, however, these three are a great start, and certainly fill some of the gaps we need with our graduating seniors."
Brooks lives in Kansasville, Wis., and swims for Wakausha Express with coach Blain Carlson and is one of the top swimmers in Wisconsin this season. Brooks attends Westosha Central High School in Paddock Lake, Wis. As a senior, she led the Falcons to a sectional and conference championship and a ninth-place finish at the state meet. Brooks holds eight team records and eared all-county swimmer of the year honors in 2009 after guiding the team to sectional and conference titles as a freshman.
"Anna can swim a lot of things and is going to make a huge impact on our program," he said. "She will help us right away on relays and pretty much in any event we want to put her in. She is a confident lady with the drive and discipline to help her achieve great things at the college level. I am thrilled she has chosen NM State and is another great find for us out of the state of Wisconsin."
Broome, a Phoenix, Ariz. resident, is swimming for the Scottsdale Aquatic Club with coach Kevin Zacher. She is attending Chaparral High School in Scottsdale, Ariz. Broome led the Five Birds to a 7-0 record in 2012 and a sixth-place showing at state. She is both a team and conference record holder.
"Abbie was a great find for us, and I think she has the leadership qualities to really help our team in many ways," he said. "She has a great personality and mixed well with the team during her visit. Abbie is a sprint freestyler and will be a great help in those events along with fly and back. She is very athletic and has the strength to get much faster. She is another great student and has the attributes to be very successful at NM State."
Morris joins the Aggies from Montrose, Colo. She swims for the Delta Barracudas with coach Amanda Hatch and Montrose High School with coach Ellen Erickson. Morris was a two-time state champion in the 100 breaststroke in 2011 and 2012. She set the state record in the 100 breast (1:04.03) in 2011. Morris led the Indians to league crowns in 2010 and 2011.
"Logan swims the breaststroke events and will make an immediate impact for us," Pratt said. "She has been one of the top breaststrokers in the state of Colorado and has the potential to take her swimming to the highest level. Logan is a great person and will make an excellent teammate with our group. I am honored she choose NM State and think she will do great things for our program in many ways."
