LAS CRUCES, N.M.-The New Mexico State University football team could not hold off San Jose State University as the end result was a 47-7 loss on Saturday, Nov. 10, for the team's last home conference game of the season.

"It was just a bad day, and I am kind of surprised," said head football coach DeWayne Walker.

The Aggies finished the game with a total of 220 yards of offense.  The Aggies threw for 100 yards and ran for 120 yards.

Quarterbacks Andrew Manley and Travaughn Colwell shared snaps under center throughout the game.  Manley threw for 46 yards off seven completions and Colwell threw for 54 yards off five completions and one touchdown.  Colwell's touchdown pass was his first of the season and his third career touchdown pass.  Colwell also ran for 16 yards.

A pair of NM State running backs reached the 50-yard mark in the game.  Running back Tiger Powell ran for 51 yards off eight carries and running back Germi Morrison ran for 50 yards off 14 carries.

Tight end Trevor Walls led the Aggies in receiving yards with three catches for 30 yards and one touchdown.  Wide receiver Austin Franklin also contributed with two catches for 16 yards.

On special teams, punter Cayle Chapman-Brown punted for a total of 356 yards, averaging 50.9 yards per punt.  Franklin also helped out on special teams with 84 return yards on kick return.

On defense, safety Davis Cazares led all Aggies with nine total tackles, including two unassisted tackles.  Linebacker Trashaun Nixon finished with eight tackles and linebacker Alex LaVoy finished with six tackles.  Safety George Callender recorded his second interception in as many games.

The Aggie defense was able to stop the first drive by the Spartan offence and forced the opponent to settle for a field goal, putting the score at 3-0 to open up the game.  A couple of big plays by San Jose State put the score at 17-0 to conclude the first quarter.

NM State concluded the first quarter with 33 passing yards and 20 passing yards.  Morrison led all Aggie rushers with 27 yards off five carries.  Cazares led all Aggie defenders with three tackles.

The NM State defense opened up their first drive of the second quarter with an interception of the San Jose State quarterback by Callender.  The interception was Callender's second career interception, and his second interception in as many games.

The first half concluded with the score 37-0 in favor of San Jose State.

The Aggies concluded the first half with 63 rushing yards and 59 passing yards to total 122 yards of offense.  Manley completed seven passes for 46 yards.  Morrison ran for 34 yards off 10 carries and running back Tiger Powell contributed with 29 rushing yards off three carries.  Walls led the Aggies in receptions with two catches for 21 yards.

The defensive side of the ball for the Aggies in the first half was highlighted by Callender's interception.  Four different Aggies finished the first half with three total tackles apiece.  On special teams, Franklin compiled 84 kick return yards.

The Aggies were able to put together a scoring drive in the closing minutes of the fourth quarter when Colwell threw a nine yard pass to Walls.  The successful extra point put the score to 47-7.   

The Aggies will have another bye-week before facing BYU on Saturday, Nov. 24, for their final home game of the season.
