LAS CRUCES, N.M.
– The New Mexico State equestrian team responded after a tough start to the
weekend with an 11-3 win over West Texas A&M, Saturday afternoon at the NM
State Equestrian Center. The Aggies improve to 3-3 on the season.
The Hunter Seat team defeated WTAM 6-2, while the Western
team won 5-1.
“The team rallied today and came back strong for a solid win
against West Texas A&M,” head coach Robin Morris-Walters said. “I am
pleased with how hard my team worked hosting this event and expect them to rise
to the challenge of our next meet on the road.”
The Equitation on the Flat team tied 2-2 with victories
by Samantha Stephens over Kayle Reeves, 80-75 and Hannah Swarthout beating Sage
Hanner, 76-66. The Aggies went sweep the Equitation over Fences, as Amber
Tassel earned MVP honors by beating Jessica bass, 85-75. Julie Frey defeated
Katie kaegi, 79-74, while Emily McConnell handled Livi Ron, 78-72. Laura
Bostwick rounded out the Aggie scoring with a 78-69 win over Kayla Reeves.
The Horsemanship competition saw Lauren DeVoe earn MVP
honors with a 73.5-72.5 win over Leah Thomas, while Brynn Larson was victorious
over Addie Davis, 73.5-0. Jessica Woolsey and Megan Gould both tied in their
Larson then earned MVP honors with a 72-70.5 win over
Leah Thomas in Reining, as Haley Newkirk defeated Angela Bradley, 69.5-66.5 and
Tara Wilson beat Sami Gallagher, 71-63.5.
The Aggies will be back in action on Nov. 14 at the AQHA Collegiate Horsemanship Challenge in
Oklahoma City, Okla.
