LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State volleyball team defeated UT-San Antonio in straight sets (26-24, 25-19, 25-21) in the Pan American Center, Thursday, Oct. 11 to move to 13-5 on the year and 7-1 in Western Athletic Conference play.

The Aggies held the Roadrunners to a .050 hitting percentage and out-blocked UTSA 12-9.  Junior Desiree Scott led the defensive side of the net with four assisted blocks and two solo blocks, while she added five kills on offense.  Sophomore Meredith Hays tallied a match-high 11 kills and junior Lauren Loerch added eight kills.

Red shirt freshman Gwen Murphy had an efficient night with a .714 hitting percentage as she posted five kills on seven swings.  She also dug up two balls and was in on three blocks.  Junior Ciara Brown and sophomore Maggi Jo Keffury split the setting duties with 18 and 16 assists respectively.

There were 11 ties and two lead changes in set one but it was NM State who pulled away with the 26-24 win as Murpy and junior Preslie Alexander put down the last two kills of the set.  The second set saw NM State jump out to an early 7-1 lead but the Roadrunners fought back and tied the set up at 13-all after going on a 12-6 rally.  After an attack error by UTSA, the Aggies never looked back and won 25-19.

NM State showed its potential dominance winning set three 25-21 and holding UTSA to a .024 hitting percentage in the set.  After a kill from Hays, the Aggies posted five consecutive kills to take a 14-3 lead.  The Roadrunners stayed in the set and pulled to within three at 18-15 but a kill by Murphy ended the set and match to give NM State win No. 13 on the year.

The Aggies host Texas State in another WAC matchup at 7p.m. in the Pan American Center.  The match is scheduled to be televised as a part of the AggieVision Productions and can also be seen online at ESPN3.  Check AggieVision.tv for channel listings or contact your satellite or cable provider.
