LAWRENCE, Kan. (Sept. 20)- The New Mexico State women's golf team heads to Lawrence, Kan. to participate in the Eighth Annual Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational hosted by Kansas University, Sept. 24-25.

The three-round tournament will be played on the par 72, 6,636-yards Alvamar Golf Course.  The first two 18-hole rounds will be played Monday with a shotgun start at 7:15 a.m. (MT).  The final round will be played on Tuesday with a staggered shotgun format starting at 7 a.m. (MT).

The Aggies will be part of 13-team field that also includes host Kansas, Kansas State, Arkansas-Little Rock, Arkansas State, Florida Gulf Coast, Illinois State, Middle Tennessee State, North Dakota State, Northern Iowa, Oral Roberts, the University of Missouri-Kansas City and Wichita State.

Competing for the Aggies in Lawrence will be seniors Aileen Meredith and Marisa Bautista, junior Amelie Buhl, sophomore Laura Barron and freshman Kacey Dalpes.  Bautista will be competing in her first tournament of the season.  The other four NM State golfers also competed in the Aggies' opening tournament, the Colonel Bill Wollenberg's Ptarmigan Ram Classic.

This is the first year NM State will compete in the Sunflower Invitational.  Last year's tournament was won by Arkansas-Little Rock who posted a final team score of 27-over-par 891 to win by 14 strokes over second place Kansas State.  Malin Lundberg of Arkansas-Little Rock won the individual title shooting a 1-over-par 217.

NM State hopes to improve off a 17th place finish at the Ram Classic in Fort Collins.  The Aggies were led by Dalpes, who finished 30th with a total score of 11-over-par 227 (77-75-75) and Meredith, who finished 62nd with a total score of 19-over-par 235 (78-81-76).
