LAS CRUCES, N.M. (June 21) - The NM State softball coaching visited the City of Las Cruces Youth Softball and Baseball Camp and spoke to the elementary-aged campers, June 20. Head coach Kathy Rodolph, associate head coach Cat Heifner and assistant head coach Tiala Tagaloa discussed Aggie softball and the importance of education.

Current Aggie and Las Cruces product Kristi Covarrubia joined the coaches at the event. She answered questions from the campers and talked about growing up in the local community and attending Onate High School before becoming an Aggie. The redshirt junior infielder is on track to graduate early and begin a Master's in education before completing her Aggie career.

Rodolph and her staff spoke to the campers and emphasized dreaming big and accomplishing those goals. She stressed math, science and reading skills are important to becoming a well-rounded student-athlete. The staff talked about the upcoming 2013 season and invited all the campers to attend a summer camp at the NM State Softball Complex. Children 12 and under are admitted free to all Aggie softball home games.

The coaches interacted with the children asking the skills the group learned and later signed posters, shirts and even some gloves of enthusiastic campers. The campers joined Covarrubia and the staff for a group photo before a final huddle and Aggie team chant.

NM State begins preparations for the 2013 softball season in the fall with practice and some exhibition games.
