Will Martin begins his fourth season with the New Mexico State football team and his first season as the outside linebackers coach.

            As the linebacker coach in 2012 for the Aggies, Martin led a unit that included second team all-WAC selection Trashaun Nixon.  Nixon ended 2012 with 96 total tackles, three sacks and a team-leading 9.5 tackles for a loss.  Nixon also intercepted one pass and forced a fumble for the season.  Martin also guided Bryan Bonilla, who ended the season with 78 tackles, 4.5 tackles for a loss and a sack.  As a unit, the linebackers ended with 19 tackles for a loss for 58 total yards, four sacks and two forced fumbles.

       Martin was the Aggies' defensive back coach in 2011, guiding a group that intercepted nine passes and recorded 32 pass break-ups. Under Martin, defensive back Jonte Green was named a second team All-WAC selection, while safety Donyae Coleman earned first team honors. Coleman led the Aggies in tackles with 133 on the season and recorded a team-high six interception, which led the conference and tied for seventh in the country. Coleman's 133 tackles ranked 11th in the nation.

       During the summer of 2012, Martin participated in the NFL's Minority Coaching Program with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

       Martin helped guide defensive back Davon House to a first team All-WAC selection in 2010. House was then drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the fourth round of the 2011 NFL Draft. Coleman led the team in tackles with 92, ranking sixth in the WAC. The secondary for the Aggies recorded four interceptions on the season, including an interception for a touchdown against Hawai'i in the season finale.

       Most recently, Martin was the assistant head coach/defensive coordinator at College of the Desert in 2009.    Prior to his defensive coordinator duties at College of the Desert, Martin was the defensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator for the school from 2006-08. In 2006, Martin was also with the San Diego Chargers as a defensive backs intern.

       Before heading to College of the Desert, Martin was the defensive backs coach for Riverside Community College from 2003-06. Prior to his stint at Riverside, he was the head coach at Moreno Valley High School from 2000-03.

       He was the defensive coordinator coach at A.B. Miller High School (1998-2000) and a secondary coach at J.W. North High School (1997). Martin's first stint at College of the Desert was from 1995-97, as the secondary coach. Prior to that, Martin was defensive coordinator at Ramona High School in 1994.

       Martin played for Riverside Community College from 1989-90, where he helped Riverside win the 1989 National Championship, Martin then went on to play at New Mexico from 1991-93 and was a two-year letter winner.

       As an intern with the Chargers, Martin coached NFL players Marlon McCree, Bhawoh Jue, Clinton Hart, Terrence Kiel, DeAngelo Willingham and Nick Barnett.  As a high school/junior college coach, Martin helped develop Darrell Brooks of Arizona, Prince Hall of Alabama, DeAngelo Willingham of Tennessee, and Earl Brooks of Iowa State. 

       Martin is married to Sonia and they have five children together; Will, Jr., Vanessa, Sharmiya, N'kayla and Jaidah.
