TUCSON, Ariz.-The Aggie women's tennis team fell, 5-2,
to the San Diego Toreros, Friday in Tucson, Ariz.
The Aggies chances looked promising with the first
doubles match against San Diego. At the top stop, partners Aleksa Costa and
Sophia Marks took the match to a tie breaker but fell with a close score of
9-8. Manon Sylvain and Isabela Kulaif retaliated with an 8-6 victory for the
Aggies.
"We had a chance to win the doubles point,"
assistant coach Ivan Fernandez said. "Manon and Isabela played extremely well."
Mistakes in the beginning of the match at the
third position resulted in Ginet Pinero and Natalia Salum dropping the point
8-2.
Individually, the Aggies put up a fight against
some ranked opponents. Pinero and Salum came back to win their singles matches
in the second and fourth spots respectively.
"I'm very proud of how hard the girls are fighting
against these ranked teams," Fernandez said. "I know we are close to getting it
together and breaking through."
The Aggies now prep for a five-match homestand
starting with Colorado State, Friday, Feb. 19.
