LAS VEGAS – Senior Sophia
Marks took down UNLV’s Nives Pavlovic in three sets to finish in third place at
the UNLV Fall Invitational at the Fertitta Tennis Complex in Las Vegas, Nev.,
Sunday, Sept. 27.
Marks dropped a tough first
set 6-7, but came back and won the next two 6-4, 6-1, to finish third in the
field of eight.
“Sophia had a great
tournament,” assistant coach Ivan Fernandez said. “She played against the top
players from Texas and UNLV and showed she could compete and win against these
top schools.”
In her first match of the
tournament, Marks defeated Texas’ Krista Damico 6-3, 6-2, but fell to UNLV’s
top player, No. 90 Kristina Nedeltcheva, in straight sets Saturday. Marks ended
the tournament by going 2-1 in singles.
