LAS VEGAS – New Mexico State’s men’s tennis team will close out the fall season when they compete in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Championships Oct. 21-25.

The Aggies, who are in the mountain region, will send seniors Gustave Diep and Eduardo Salas, juniors Jim Brouleau, Arthur Surreaux, Armando Morales and Craig Duran and sophomore Matej Stakne to play at the tournament, hosted at UNLV’s Darling Tennis Center.

“We’re looking for a good closing to the fall season,” assistant coach Carlos Vargas said. “We have some great players on this team who are capable of catching fire and going all the way. We’ve never been to the regional finals since I’ve been here, but it’s not out of the question with this group.”

One of the areas Vargas said he would like to see improvement on in preparation for the spring season is in doubles.

“The fall is a good time to work on things for the spring,” Vargas said. “I’m looking forward to seeing Diep and Eddy [Salas] get things going and to see them close out their senior years with good results.”

Leading the way for NM State is Brouleau, who has combined for an 8-2 record in singles. He opened the fall season by claiming a share of the singles title at the Aggie Fall Invitational and by winning the singles title in the consolation draw of the following tournament – the competitive H.E.B. Baylor Intercollegiate Invitational.

As a team, the Aggies competing in the tournament have a combined singles record of 32-27 and a 12-7 record in doubles in the fall.

Joining the Aggies in the tournament will be Boise State, Brigham Young, Colorado State, Colorado, Denver, Idaho State, Idaho, Montana State, Montana, UNLV, Nevada, New Mexico, Northern Arizona, Northern Colorado, Air Force, Utah State, Utah, Weber State and Wyoming.
