LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State women's golf team is tied for eighth with three other teams after one day of play at the 2009 Price's "Give 'Em Five" Intercollegiate on the NMSU Golf Course, Monday, Oct. 12.
The Aggies fired a 305 just as Colorado State, UTEP and Kansas State did on the par 72, 6,319 yard course. UC-Irvine leads the 18-team field after carding a 294 team score, while Western Athletic Conference teams, Idaho and Fresno State came in second and third respectively.
Hannah Burke of Baylor, Christine Wong of San Diego State and Joy Trotter of UC-Irvine all fired a 3-under-par 69 in round one and are on top of the 94 player leader board after 18-holes of play.
"This is a great field we have here," head coach Paul Brilliant said. "It's a chance for the community to come out and see some great women's golfers as well as support the NM State women's golf team. We invite all to come out and watch."
Junior Mint Swaschuto (Bangkok, Thailand) led the way for NM State as she carded a 2-over-par 74 to tie for 11th as she shot 14 pars on the day. Senior Maggie Murphy (Sioux Falls, S.D.) came in tied for 39th with a 5-over-par 77, while junior Buz Bowerman-Ritchie (Oshawa, Ontario) and freshman Lindsay Reeve (Redmond, Ore.) carded the same score to also tie for 39th.
Freshman Jocelyn Adams (Hatch, N.M.) finished with a 16-over-par 88 to come in 92nd while freshman Marissa Bautista (Las Cruces, N.M.) finished 93rd with an 18-over-par 90 playing as an individual.
The tournament will continue with round two starting at 8 a.m. (MT) at the NMSU Golf Course.
