RIVERSIDE, IOWA - The New Mexico State men's golf team wrapped up competition at the Golfweek's Conference Challenge on Tuesday, finishing 13th overall with a three round score of 33-over par, 897. In the final round the Aggies carded a team score of 11-over par, 299.
"I was pleased with our upper classmen today and how they were able to grind out some good rounds for us," head coach Scott Lieberwirth said. "I thought our freshman struggled but it was a good learning experience for them. We have to start somewhere and this tournament revealed some areas where we have to get better. We don't have much time at all to think about this tournament because we have another one in about eight days and that will be another challenge for our team."
Junior Tim Madigan led the Aggies with his second round of under par golf, as he carded a 1-under par, 71. He finished the tournament 2-over par, 218, tying for 17th overall. Sophomore Gaston De La Torre recorded a 2-over par, 74 in the final round, tying him for 36th overall with a three round total of 7-over par, 223.
Senior Ryan Word bounced back after a disappointing second round to shoot 2-over par, 74. Word was 14-over par, 230 for the tournament, placing him in a tied for 61st. Freshman Will Holdrigde slipped a little in the final round with an 8-over par, 80, placing h NM State Men's Golf Finishes 13th at Golfweek's Conference Challenge

Freshman Derek Baade rounded out the Aggie competitors with a final round score of 15-over par, 87. He finished 74th overall with a three round score of 26-over par, 242.
Florida State took the team title at 11-under par, followed by Iowa (-3) and Coastal Carolina (+2). Brad Hopfinger of Iowa won the individual title with a three round score of 9-under par.
The Aggies will be back in action on Sept. 11-12 at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate in Albuquerque, N.M.
