Track and Field Strong at Regionals

NORMAN, Okla.-- New Mexico State women’s track and field ‘s senior Sandra Anane and junior throwers Corissa Hutchinson and Jordan Veney all competed at the 2009 Midwest Regional Championships, hosted by the University of Oklahoma, in Norman, Okla., Friday, May 29.

 

Anane highlighted all Aggie performances by making it to the finals in the long jump.  She placed 10th overall with a leap of 19-9.

 

Assistant Coach Paul Harkins said that he was very proud of all three athletes and feels Anane had a great outing.

 

“Jordan, Corissa and Sandra have done a great job for us all year,” Harkins said.  “They have been leaders, competitors and consistent threats for us.

 

“Anane came out and did what she had to do today and gave herself an opportunity to move on and she did.  We are all very proud of her.”

 

Veney and Hutchinson competed in the discus throw and placed 19th and 23rd, respectively.  Veney recorded a distance of 142-09 and Hutchinson registered a mark of 145-10.

 

“Corissa still has the shot put to compete in tomorrow,” Harkins said.  “She has a chance to keep her season alive and I have all the confidence in the world that she will.”

 

Hutchinson is back in action, Saturday, May 30 to compete in the shot put.  Results can be found at www.NMStateSports.com following the conclusion of the event which is slated for 11:15 a.m. (MST).
