LAS CRUCES, N.M.-- Three members of the New Mexico State women’s track and field team are competing at the 2009 Midwest Regionals, hosted by the University of Oklahoma, in Norman, Okla., Friday, May 29 through Saturday, May 30.

Senior jumper Sandra Anane and junior throwers Corissa Hutchinson and Jordan Veney are the three student-athletes representing New Mexico State.  Assistant coach Scott Fister said that he knows the student-athletes are ready for the championships.

“I feel that any athletes representing any school at the regional level is a great honor,” Fister said.  Sandra, Jordan and Corissa have been consistent threats for us this season and I feel that if they perform at their potential then they will give themselves the opportunity to move to the NCAA Championships.”

Hutchinson is competing in two events for the Aggies, the shot put and the discus, while Anane and Veney are participating in the long jump and discus, respectively.

“Making it to Regionals was a goal of mine,” Hutchinson said.  “However, it was not the only goal I have for myself for the outdoor season.  In fact making it to the NCAAs is another goal I have for myself and I feel it’s realistic.”

Hutchinson recorded her first NCAA Regional qualifying mark in the shot put at the Springtime Invitational (March 28) in El Paso, Texas, when she posted a mark of 47-09.00.  Then a week later at the UTEP Invitational (April 11), Hutchinson recorded her second regional mark, this time in the discus with a toss of 161-10.

At the Azusa Invitational (April 17-18), Anane jumped her way to a NCAA Regional qualifying mark in the long jump with a season-best mark of 19-9.75.

Veney is competing in the discus and set her NCAA Regional qualifying mark at the Azusa Invitational with a distance of 159-04.
