High School: Cate arrived in Las Cruces from Burien, Wash., and swam for King Aquatics and Sean Hutchinson. She was a four-time state qualifier for Highline High School in Burien, Wash. Cate owns the school record  in the 100 back, and she was an all-American as a senior. In her junior campaign, Cate earned a pair of silver medals at state. As a sophomore, she finished second and third at the state meet. Additionally, Cate was a four-time most valuable player honoree for the Pirates.

Personal: Cate is the daughter of Esko and Vicki Cate, and she was born in Burien, Wash. Cate is majoring in sociology.
