LAS CRUCES, N.M.-The New Mexico State men’s basketball team continues to garner preseason accolades. Senior guard/forward Justin Hawkins was selected to the second team Collegehoops.net High-Major All-American team, the organization announced recently.
“I think the early recognition for Justin is very well-deserved,” head coach Marvin Menzies said. “In my recent transition, Justin has been one of the key reasons it’s got as smoothly as it has. I think that’s a credit to his work ethic, leadership and potential.”
Earlier this week, Hawkins was first team All-WAC selection in both the coaches and media preseason polls. He led the Aggies in both scoring and rebounding last season with 15.6 points and 6.6 rebounds per game. The Anaheim, Calif., native was the 2007 WAC Tournament Most Valuable Player after leading NMSU to its first conference tournament title.
The Aggies begin practice for the 2007-08 season Friday, Oct. 12 and they open the season on the road at Ohio, Nov. 9, in a rematch of last season’s EPSNU BracketBuster game.
The CHN High-Major All-America team is composed of the following conferences: Atlantic 10, Colonial, Conference USA (minus Memphis), MVC, MWC, WAC, WCC (only Gonzaga).
