LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Senior Erin Birmingham of the New Mexico State volleyball team was named to The ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District VI Team as announced by the College Sports Information Directors Association (CoSIDA), Thursday, Nov. 5.
Birmingham (Riverside, Mo.) carries a 3.88 GPA and is working towards a bachelor's degree in Exercise Science. While hitting the books, Birmingham has seen time in 78 sets and is in the top ten in the Western Athletic Conference in blocks.
"This is quite an honor," Birmingham said. "It means a lot to me because I have always wanted to be as good in academics as I am in athletics. This is very important to me."
Birmingham expects to graduate with her degree in the fall of 2010 and looks to continue her education to pursue a career in occupational therapy.
On the hardwood, Birmingham averages 1.13 blocks per set which ranks her No. 8 in the conference and adds 1.56 kills per set in the middle. She has also served up 11 aces on the season and posted a career-high 12 kills in a 3-1 victory at San Jose State, Oct. 15.
Birmingham and the rest of the Aggies take on Boise State, Thursday, Nov. 5 before facing Idaho on Senior Night, Saturday, Nov. 7. Both matches begin at 7 p.m. (MT), while Thursday's match is scheduled to air on TV as a part of the AggieVision productions.
