2008 (Sophomore): Nelson played in all 12 games for the Aggies in 2008 as the team’s long snapper and tight end. On the season, Nelson long snapped on every extra point, field goal and punt for the Aggies attempted in 2008. He also recorded 11 receptions for 70 yards. Against Louisiana Tech (11/22), Nelson had a career-high five receptions for 47 yards. At Fresno State (11/15), Nelson caught three passes for eight yards and then he caught two passes for seven yards at Utah State (11/29).

 

2007 (Redshirt Freshman): Nelson played in all 13 games for NM State as the team’s back-up tight end and deep snapper. On the season, Nelson caught two passes for six yards. At Auburn (9/22) he caught his first career pass, a six-yard grab. He then added one more catch against Louisiana Tech (10/13).

 

2006 (Freshman - Tulsa): Nelson was a redshirt freshman for the Hurricanes.

 

High School: Nelson played his senior year at China Spring High School, starting at tight end and he also handled the deep snap and punting chores. He accumulated 50 receptions on the season, helping his team to a 7-3 record as a senior. He earned first team all-district and first team Super CenTex honors as a tight end and also received second team all-district honors as a punter. He also lettered in basketball and track one year each.

 

Personal: His grandfather, Roger Nelson, played 13 years of professional football with the CFL’s Edmonton Eskimos and his father is an assistant coach for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. He is the son of Mark and Lori Nelson and plans to major in individualized studies.
