2008 (Sophomore): Powell played and started in all 12 games as a defensive back and on special teams for the Aggies last season. He ranked fifth on the team and 19th in the WAC in tackles with 71, recorded a pair of interceptions for 29 yards and had three pass-breakups. Against New Mexico (9/27), Powell collected a season-high 14 tackles. He also recorded seven tackles against San Jose State (10/18), No. 5 Boise State (11/1) and Hawai’i (11/8). Versus Idaho (10/25), Powell had one interception for 29 yards.
2007 (Freshman): Powell played in 12 games for the Aggies at the defensive back position and on special teams. On the season, Powell collected eight tackles and one pass break-up during the season. Against Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Powell tallied a season-high two tackles. He collected six games with at least one tackle.
High School: Powell played both cornerback and wide receiver for the Copperas Cove Bulldogs. As a senior, Powell spent most of his time at cornerback, tallying 48 tackles, six interceptions, returning two for touchdowns and recovering two fumbles. As a wide receiver, Powell caught nine passes and scored seven touchdowns. He helped his team to the state quarterfinals in Division 13-5A, while also winning the district championship, as the Bulldogs posted a 13-1 record. Powell was named an all-district and all-state selection his senior season. As a junior, Powell helped the Bulldogs to a 10-2 record and the second round of the state playoffs. He was named to the all-district team, while earning an all-state honorable mention spot. He recorded 34 catches and 12 touchdowns at the wide receiver spot. As a sophomore, Powell caught 29 passes and four touchdowns, earning all-district honors.
Personal: Powell is the son of Alphonso Sr. and Doria Powell. He is majoring in accounting.
