Hensley Named Assistant Equestrian Coach
Courtesy: New Mexico State University
Release:  01/08/2013

Jessica Hensley is the most recent addition to the coaching staff of the New Mexico State University Equestrian Team. She will be joining the Aggies as the assistant hunt seat coach, under Head Coach Robin Morris – Walters.

"I am very excited to add Coach Hensley to our coaching staff.  She has an extensive background in the hunter seat events and was a student-athlete in a well respected Equestrian program.  I know the team is excited the coaching void from last fall is filled and am confident Coach Hensley will be a great resource for our hunter seat riders and will help us as we strive to continue building a successful program."

Prior to joining the New Mexico State Equestrian coaching staff, Hensley spent her undergraduate career at Kansas State University where she was a member of the Wildcat Equestrian Team. There she was exposed to a strong and nationally competitive program – an experience she will bring to the NM State Equestrian team. She rode both over fences and on the flat, but began to specialize in equitation on the flat following her Sophomore year. In that time, she became a JustWorld International Athlete Ambassador, as well.

Before joining Kansas State University's equestrian team, Hensley spend her junior years competing on the United State Equestrian Federation 'A' circuit in hunters, jumpers, and equitation. She has competed in shows in Alaska, California, Kentucky, Oklahoma, Texas, and Missouri.

In 2006, Hensley qualified for the United States Equestrian Federation Junior Working Hunter Finals in California. That year, she was also Zone champion in the Large Junior Working Hunter, 16-17 division.

Her list of titles includes the 2006 USHJA Zone 12 Horsemanship Challenge Champion, the 2006 USEF Zone 12 Large Junior Working Hunter, 16-17 Champion, the 2006 ASH Hunter Seat Medal Final Qualifier, the 2006 ASH Team Cup Champion and the 2005 ASH Team Cup Champion, as well as numerous show championships in hunter, jumper, and equitation divisions.

Besides her competitive successes, Jessica Hensley has an impeccable training background. Her former instructors include a USEF 'R' judge, two former Olympians, and a member of the Dutch national dressage team. She has spent several summers abroad, studying with some of the best instructors in the world.

Hensley graduated from Kansas State University in 2010 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. Originally from Palmer, Alaska, she has been riding since she was four years old.

She currently resides in Las Cruces, NM.
