Brookings, S.D. - The New Mexico State equestrian team wrapped up its fall season, Saturday afternoon, with a 13-9 win over South Dakota State. The Aggies won the Hunter Seat competition, 7-3, while the Western team fell in a close one, 6-4. NM State is now 5-2 on the season.
"I'm happy with the rides of all our athletes today," head coach Audrey Buck said. "We had some very difficult rides and difficult horses today with touch patterns and I thought our riders rose to the challenge. This was a great way to end the fall season."
The Aggies would sweep the Equitation on the Flat competition, 5-0. Ruby Jenkins was named MVP with a 95-86 win over Santana Wright. Amber Tassel defeated Megan Schiferl, 81-78, as Hannah Swarthout beat Megan Schiffman, 79-71. Stephanie Gershon kept her perfect record on 8-0 in the Equitation on the Flat with a win over Jordan Goodall, 90-79, while Brianna Raab defeated Megan Violand, 88-77.
In Equitation over Fences, Emily McConnell beat Violand, 78-72. Amy Lang also kept her perfect record of 8-0 on the season in Equitation over Fences with a win over Jenna Boscardin, 85-69.
The Western team would fall 3-2 in both Horsemanship and Reining. Megan Gould was named MVP in Horsemanship with a 73-68.5 win over Kelsey Champagne. Brynn Larson won her head-to-head match-up 71-58 over Danielle Baker, as Lauren DeVoe defeated Hillery Baysinger, 72-71.
In Reining, Stephanie Story beat Jana Basler, 67-0, while Tara Wilson was named MVP with her win over Brittany Weber, 72-68.
The Aggies now be off for the next two months, starting competitions back up on Jan. 27 at Tennessee-Martin.
