LAS CRUCES, N.M. -- For the fifth-straight season the New Mexico State equestrian team will travel to the Varsity Equestrian National Championships (VENC) at the Heart of Texas Fair and Rodeo Complex, April 14-16, in Waco, Texas. The Aggies qualified both teams for this year's varsity championship as the Western team enters the 2011VENC as the No. 9 seed and the Hunter Seat team earned a No.12 seed.

"We are very excited to have qualified for the Varsity Equestrian National Championships," head coach Audrey Van Eman said. "The team has had a very intense competition schedule this spring and I feel that it has prepared us to be at the top of our game mentally and physically for nationals.  Our last three competitions this month have been a good indicator of what team members will be our most competitive and Coach Morris and I feel confident that they will show at their best."

The Hunter Seat was selected as the No.12 seed and will compete at this year's championships after missing the 2009 championships. The Aggies will face the No. 5 seed Texas A&M on Thursday, April 14. The Aggies did not compete against Texas A&M during the 2010-11 regular season. The NM State Hunter Seat team finished the regular season 3-5-5 overall.

The Aggie Western team is seeded No. 9 going into nationals and will compete against the No. 8 seeded, Baylor. If the Aggies win their first round match up they will compete against the No. 1 seed Texas A&M. The Aggies fell to Baylor in the first competition of the season. On the season, the Western team was 3-5-3 overall.

Twelve Hunter Seat and twelve Western teams were chosen to participate by the VENC Selection Committee. Championship awards are given to the tournament's overall winner as well as the best English and Western programs.
