NM State Equestrian Wraps up Trip to Manhattan, Kansas

MANHATTAN, Kan. - The New Mexico State equestrian team took on Auburn and Kansas State this weekend in Manhattan, Kan. The Aggies fell 13-2 to Auburn and 10-5 to Kansas State.

The Aggies took on Auburn on Friday afternoon. The Hunter Seat team managed two points against Auburn, falling 6-2. Emily McConnell defeated Dottie Grubb 78-75 in Equitation over Fences, while Chelsea Keyes handled Anna Becker, 60-55.

The Western team dropped their competition to Auburn, 7-1. Kate Goodwin beat Stephanie Rucci of Auburn, 67-66 in Reining for the only NM State point.

Against Kansas State on Saturday, the Hunter Seat would tie in overall points 4-4, but was edged out in raw score. In Equitation over Fences, Laura Bostwick defeated Catherine Avolese, 78-75, while Stephanie Gershon beat Rachel Webster, 73-69. In the Equitation on the Flat, Chelsea Keyes earned MVP honors with a 78-72 win over Melanie Hinzpeter.

The Western team dropped the team score to Kansas State, 6-1. The Aggies would be shutout in Horsemanship as Breanne Bertrand defeated Emily Stockford.

The Aggies will be back in action March 19 against South Carolina in Columbus, S.C.
