LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The New Mexico State equestrian team defeated West Texas A&M, Saturday at the NM State Equestrian Center, 12-8. The Hunter Seat team won 6-4, while the Western team won 6-4. The Aggies are now 2-2 on the season.
“I thought we had a solid performance all around,” head coach Audrey Van Eman said. “We will continue to get better as the year goes along. I’m pleased with both our Equitation on the Flat and Horsemanship teams. We couldn’t have asked more out of them today.”
In the Hunter Seat competition, the Equitation on the Flat won 4-1, as Chelsae Keyes was named MVP with a win over Natalie Baker, 85-77. Erica Daniels defeated Kaylee Turner, 81-74, while Laura Bostwick beat Tabatha Taylor, 85-78. Brianna Raab rounded out the Aggie wins by beating Sage Hanner, 83-80.
Emily McConnell won MVP honors in Equitation over Fences by defeating Dana Harper, 85-64, while Samantha Stephens handled Katie Risdahl, 79-91. The Equitation over Fences’ team fell 3-2 to West Texas A&M.
The Western team won the Horsemanship competition 4-1, while dropping the Reining showdown, 3-2. Pamela Evans won the MVP honor in Horsemanship, 73-69.5, over Karissa Milu. Chelsea Campbell beat Julia Roberts, 71-67.5, while Megan Gould beat Christa Forsberg, 71.5-65. Kyra Cruse grabbed the final point for the Aggies with a 71-67.5 win over Casey Settles.
In the Reining competition, Kate Goodwin defeated Krista Liesman, 69-63.5, as Christina Keyes beat Christa Forsberg, 68-0.
The Aggies will be back in action on Oct. 23 at Fresno State.
