LAS CRUCES, N.M. -- The New Mexico State equestrian team hosts its first home competition of the season, Saturday, Oct. 2nd at the NM State Equestrian Center. The dual match-up pits the Aggies versus West Texas A&M. The competition will begin at 9 a.m. The last time NM State faced West Texas A&M was back on March 28th 2009, as the Aggies won easily, 13-3.
"In our first home competition of the season we are looking for consistency from our upperclassmen," head coach Audrey van Eman said. "They had some time to practice and work and we are expecting them to shine and do well for us. This is also an opportunity for some of the riders that haven't had as many chances to perform in the past to show us how they have improved and that they are ready to step up and compete."
Competing for the Hunter Seat team this weekend will be Stephanie Gershon, Amy Lang, Jennifer Friend, Chelsea Keyes, Laura Bostwick, Erica Daniels, Emily McConnell, Brianna Raab and Samantha Stephens. Showing for the Western team this weekend will be Kate Goodwin, Breanne Bertrand, Chelsea Campbell, Jo Walker, Kyra Cruce, Megan Gould, Pamela Evans, Christina Keyes and Jennifer Friend.
The Aggies are coming off a successful weekend at the Willis Invitational in Waco, Texas. NM State came out of the weekend with a 1-2 overall record, defeating Miami-Ohio in Hunter Seat and Ohio State in Western. The Aggies fell to Delaware State and Baylor but both were very close match-ups.
