WACO, Texas --- The NM State equestrian team wrapped up competition at the Willis Invitational Saturday afternoon. The Aggies finished its competition with Miami-Ohio/Ohio State, winning 12-over all. NM State then took on Baylor and fell 11-5.
"I'm very pleased with how we competed the entire tournament," head coach Robin Morris-Walters said. "I thought our Western team had a very solid day against Baylor. The Hunter Seat faced the defending national champions but never backed down. I'm so proud of our entire team. We are ready to take on TCU tomorrow."
The Aggies would win Equitation on the Flat and Equitation over Fences, 3-1, while winning Horsemanship and Reining, 3-1 as well. In the Flat, Shannon Dooley, Julie Frey and Laura Bostwick were all victorious, while Elizabeth Solomon, Amber Tassel and Emily McConnell won in the over Fences competition. Bostwick earned MOP (Most Outstanding Player) in the Flat.
NM State then won the Horsemanship, as Brynn Larson was named MOP. Jessica Woolsey and Megan Gould also won their head-to-head match-ups. In Reining, Marissa Bartmann, Larson and Haley Newkirk were victorious.
The Aggies then took on Baylor, Falling 11-5. In Hunter Seat, Bostwick earned MOP honors in on the Flat, while McConnell won her head-to-head match-up. The over Fences was shutout 4-0. In Western, Clarissa Edgerton and Larson were victorious in Horsemanship, While Newkirk took the only point for the Aggies in Reining.
The Aggies will be back in action against TCU on Sunday.
