NM State Equestrian Set to Face No. 1 South Carolina, Saturday

Las Cruces, N.M. -- The No. 4 ranked New Mexico State Equestrian team will open the 2014 spring season against No. 1 South Carolina, Saturday, February 1 at the NM State Equestrian Center. The Aggies are currently 7-2 on the season, winning their last seven competitions. Start time of the event is 9 a.m., and admission is free to the public.

"This will be our toughest competition of the season," head coach Robin Morris-Walters said. "The team has been working really hard and putting forth the extra effort. We feel confident going up against No. 1 South Carolina."

The last time South Carolina visited Las Cruces was back in the fall of 2011. NM State won its third straight team competition at Saturday at the NM State Equestrian Center over the Lady Gamecocks. The two teams finished the competition tied in overall points, 10-10, but the Aggies took the win by the raw score, as NM State won 1,402.5-1361.

The Hunter Seat team won 6-4, 3-2 in both Equitation on the Flat and Equitation over Fences, as the Western team fell 6-4 to the Lady Gamecocks, winning Reining 3-2 and falling in Horsemanship, 4-1.

The NM State Equestrian Center is located at the corner of Sam Steele and Union and fans can park in the dirt lot off of Sam Steele.
