Equestrian Heads to NCEA National Championships

LAS CRUCES, N.M. -The New Mexico State equestrian team will head out to Waco, Texas, April 18-20 for the 2013 National Collegiate Equestrian Association National Championship, at the Extraco Events Center. The NM State Hunter Seat team was seeded No. 11 and will face SMU in the first round, while the Western team was seeded No. 12 and will take on South Carolina.

"We are excited and prepared for the Championship next week," head coach Robin Morris-Walters said. "All of the riders have been practicing very well and are ready for competition on Thursday."

The Aggies finished the regular season with a 4-9 overall record and a 1-2 record at home. NM State did not face SMU or South Carolina this season.

Competing for the Western team in Waco, Texas will be Courtney Cruse, Lauren DeVoe, Clarissa Edgerton, Megan Gould, Brynn Larson and Jessica Woolsey in Horsemanship, while Marissa Bartmann, Brynn Larson, Haley Newkirk, Stefanie Story and Tara Wilson will compete in Reining.

The Hunter Seat squad will be represented by Laura Bostwick, Shannon Dooley, Emily McConnell, Samantha Stephens, Hannah Swarthout and Amber Tassel, who will compete in both Equtiation on the Flat and Equitation over Fences.

Oklahoma State is the No. 1 seed in the Western division, while Baylor is the top seed in Hunter Seat.
