FRESNO, Calif. – The New Mexico State equestrian team dropped a tough competition if Fresno State, Friday afternoon, 9-6. The Hunter Seat team beat Fresno State, 5-3, while the Western team was downed 6-1

“Despite the overall team loss, the Hunter Seat team really rode solid and earned a win over Fresno State,” head coach Robin Morris-Walters said. “On the Western side, our average scores were really high but just not enough. As a team, I thought we rode better today than we have all season long.”

NM State tied 2-2 in Equitation on the Flat, as Hannah Swarthout beat Dayle Fisher, 66-22 and Laura Bostwick handled Lanie Madrazo, 75-57. In Equitation over Fences, Swarthout led NM State with her second win of the day over Bellie Calkin, 81-71. Emily McConnell defeated Fisher and Amber Tassel beat Fresno’s Hillary West.

In Western, the Aggies were blanked in Horsemanship, going 3-0-1, as Byrn Larson tied against Christa Beezely. A total of three point separated the other three head-to-head competitions. In Reining, Tara Wilson took home the lone point for NM State, beating Lauren Crivell, 70.5-69.5.

The Aggies will take on South Dakota State Saturday morning to round out the trip.
