Aggie Twins to Perform on NBC’s TODAY Show
LAS CRUCES, N.M.—Two members of the Aggie track and field team, Camille and Courtney Schultz, were selected to travel to New York City to perform on NBC’s ‘TODAY Show’ as part of the ‘Quest for the Best’ contest. The nationally televised segment is set to air on Thursday, June 6, at 7:30 a.m. (MT).
The Schultz sisters were chosen as finalists in the competition for their singing talent, after submitting a video of a recent performance.
“Our gospel choir instructor, Dr. (Bobbie) Green, saw the contest on NBC.com requesting twins to showcase their talents,” Camille said.
Green is the conductor of the NM State Gospel Choir and is also an associates professor in the College of Business and recommended the twins enter the contest.
“These girls are the total package. They are sweet, funny and also very talented,” Green said. “I approached them about entering the competition and they thought it was a great idea.”
Green has worked with the twins for two years and has been working with them as a duet for three semesters. Camille usually works with her sister while singing but says, “We’re talented individually, but we blossom and shine when we’re together.”
The twins have been singing most of their lives but had not thought about singing as a long-term career until they were encouraged to enter this competition.
“Right now we are focusing on our nursing careers, but now this opportunity has been presented to us we will definitely go for it,” Courtney said.
The Schultz sisters competed in cross country and track and field for NM State since arriving in 2009. As freshmen, Courtney and Camille finished first and second respectively in the 2009 WAC Championships in cross country. Their finish helped the Aggies win its first WAC cross country championship in school history.
They have also qualified for NCAA preliminary competition in their careers including Courtney running in the NCAA National Championships in cross country in 2012. The Schultz twins have also had success in track and field and own the top-2 times in the Aggies’ all-time record list in four different races.
The Schultz sisters are set to perform on the ‘TODAY Show’ on Thursday, June 6 at 7:30 a.m. (MT).
