LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The results are in after a fun filled morning at Aggie Memorial Stadium for the 2012 Smoki the Wonder Dog tryouts, as handler Steve Stochaj and Striking have been named successors to Smoki and handler Joel Sims.

Striking the Wonder Dog, which he will be referred to as, is a four-year old border collie. Stochaj and Striking are excited to carry on the Smoki the Wonder Dog tradition. Striking also does Rally Obedience and is a champion in dog agility. Further Striking is on the Mesilla Valley Search and Rescue team, as a wilderness search dog for the State of New Mexico.

"It's a great honor and a tradition that should be carried on," Stochaj said. "I hope that we can live up to Smoki and Joel's great teamwork and dedication to the Aggies and the Aggie fans."

Dr. Stochaj is a professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at NM State and also serves as Chair for the President's Research and Economic Development Committee.
