SONIC® Battle of I-10 Rivalry Series Host Mascot Happy Hour

NMSU's Pistol Pete and UTEP's, Paydirt Pete will face off for the SONIC® Battle of I-10 Rivalry Series during Sonic's Happy Hour on Monday, Nov. 22 at 2:00 p.m. at the SONIC® in El Paso, TX located at 3435 N. Mesa.  They will continue the face off in Las Cruces on Monday, Nov. 29th, 2PM at the SONIC® located at 3471 Foothills.

EL PASO, TEXAS - The SONIC® Battle of I-10 Rivalry Series will resume in November when the University of Texas - El Paso (UTEP) and New Mexico State University (NMSU) square off on the hardwood.

The Miner and Aggie women's basketball teams will face one another on Nov. 17 at the Don Haskins Center, with the rematch slated for Jan. 2, 2011 in Las Cruces.  The UTEP men will host the Aggies on Nov. 23, then play at NMSU a week later on Nov. 30.

For the first time, the long-running I-10 rivalry series bears the name of SONIC® America's Drive-In.® The two-year partnership between the neighboring universities and SONIC Drive-Ins in El Paso and Las Cruces encompasses matchups in football, men's basketball and women's basketball.

"SONIC has enjoyed a long-standing history with both schools and is excited to take that relationship to the next level to include the fans of New Mexico State, UTEP and SONIC," said Donna Volz, senior marketing director for The Merritt Group, the franchise group that owns and operates SONIC Drive-Ins in El Paso and Las Cruces.

Fans can vote for their favorite team via each school's athletic website after receiving a special code on their SONIC receipt.
