“Obviously I’m very proud of Susana and Ashvarya being named as second team All-WAC singles selections,” head coach Ivan Fernandez said. “They had the most wins out of anyone on our team, which is why I nominated them. For them to come in and be new members of our team and earn All-WAC honors is a great accomplishment.”
Shrivastava, a native of Pune, India, helped lead the Aggies to a spot in the 2014 WAC Tennis Championship finals against Idaho this past week. On the season, Shrivastava tallied a 15-5 overall record, the most wins by a member of the team. She played at the No. 1, 2, 3 and 4 singles during the year, going 9-1 at the No. 4 spot. This is Shrivastava first all-WAC award of her career. She had an 11-match winning streak during the spring.
Alcaraz, a native of Aguascalientes, Mexico, was second on the team in wins in 2013-14 with a 13-7 record, playing the majority of the season at the No. 2 singles position. In that spot, Alcaraz was 7-1 overall. She also played No. 1 and No. 3 singles during the year.
The Aggies were 11-12 on the season and 1-0 in WAC play, making the finals of the 2014 WAC Women’s Tennis Championships.
