LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The New Mexico State women’s tennis team hits the road for the final time this season as the Aggies have three matches in California this week beginning with a matchup versus Cal State Northridge on Tuesday, March 25, in Northridge, Calif., at 3 p.m. (MDT).  The Aggies then travel to Irvine, Calif., to meet UC Irvine on Wednesday, March 26, also at 3 p.m., before heading to Fullerton, Calif., on Friday, March 28, to face off against Cal State Fullerton at 2:30 p.m.

NM State heads to California with a 5-9 dual-match record this spring season.  The Aggies are coming off a split of two matches against their main rivals.  NM State lost to in-state rival and 66th-ranked New Mexico, 6-1, at the NM State Tennis Center on Friday, March 21.  The Aggies rebounded by picking up their first win on an opponent’s court this season, defeating I-10 rival UTEP, 4-3, on Sunday, March 23, at the El Paso Tennis Center.

Sophomore Ashvarya Shrivastava won both her singles’ matches over the weekend.  She has now won a career-high eight-consecutive singles’ matches.  Her eight-straight wins are also a team-high for consecutive wins this season for NM State.  Shrivastava is 10-3 overall during spring dual-match action.

Cal State Northridge is 7-6 on the season, with all seven wins coming at the Matador Tennis Complex.  The Matadors are coming off a 4-3 win versus Boise State on Sunday, March 23.  The Aggies suffered a 4-1 road loss against Cal State Northridge a season ago.

UC Irvine is 9-5 on the season and has won six-consecutive matches, all at the Anteater Tennis Center where they are 6-2.  The Anteaters’ sixth win of the streak came on Saturday, March 22, a 5-2 victory over Wyoming.  UC Irvine shut out NM State at home last season, 7-0.  The Anteaters play Santa Clara before meeting the Aggies.

The Cal State Fullerton Titans, meanwhile, are 5-11 during spring play, including 5-6 at the Titan Tennis Courts.  The Titans will have over a week off before facing NM State as they last played on Thursday, March 20, a 4-3 loss in a tightly-contested match with Wyoming.  Cal State Fullerton also defeated the Aggies in 2013 as NM State lost 6-1 in Fullerton.
