LAS VEGAS (Oct. 12)-After weather conditions had affected the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Mountain Regional Championships on the first two days of the tournament, the New Mexico State women's tennis team returned to the court for singles action.
In the second round of singles, senior Ginet Pinero led the Aggies with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Alexis Garrett of UNLV. Pinero advanced to the third round but fell to Haley Driver of Montana, 6-3, 6-2.
"It was a hard fought match, and Ginet had chances to win but there were a few too many unforced errors," head coach Ivan Fernandez said. "Ginet is playing the best that I have seen her play since she has been at NM State. It is great to see her playing her best in her senior year."
Also in second-round action, sophomore Denise Van Der Ben fell to Simona Synkova of Wyoming, 6-1, 6-3, and freshman Lisa Roslanova fell to Johanna Vang of Northern Arizona, 6-0, 7-5.
The tournament continues Saturday, Oct. 13 with the consolation rounds of doubles and singles.
