SAN MARCOS, Texas (March 19) - The New Mexico State women's tennis team continues its road swing through Texas as the Aggies face future conference foe Texas State at 1 p.m. Tuesday, weather permitting.
The Aggies (7-4) have won six of their last seven matches after a 4-3 victory at UTEP last week. NM State's match at St. Edward's Sunday was suspended due to rain showers and may be rescheduled later this week..
Texas State (8-1) has won eight straight matches since a season-opening loss to TCU. The Bobcats have a common opponent with NM State in UTEP. TSU defeated the Miners 6-1 on Feb. 19 at home.
The Crimson and White's last match was at UTEP last week, resulting in a 4-3 win. NM State jumped out to an early 1-0 lead over UTEP after wins at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles. Senior Manon Sylvain and sophomore Annemieke Witte earned the crucial doubles point in extra games with a 9-8 victory at the No. 2 position.
Aggie senior Natalia Salum improved to 9-1 in singles this season with an easy 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 4 singles. Fellow co-captain Sylvain improved to 5-4 for the Aggies at the No. 1 position this season after a 6-1, 6-3 win as the second Aggie off the court. Sophomore Ros-Polly Nguyen clinched the match at 4-1 with a hard-fought 7-6, 7-6 win at No. 5 singles.
Sylvain is currently ranked No. 17 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Mountain Regional rankings.
