AUSTIN, Texas (March 17) - The New Mexico State women's tennis team continues its road swing through Texas as NM State matches up with St. Edward's University at 1 p.m. Sunday in Austin.

The Aggies (7-4) have won five of their last six matches after a 4-3 victory at UTEP Wednesday. The Hilltoppers (6-4) are on a two-match losing streak after a 7-0 setback to Abilene Christian on March 10.

NM State is the second D1 foe for the Division II school as future Western Athletic Conference (WAC) member Texas State defeated St. Edward's 6-1 on Feb. 11. St. Edward's is also the alma mater of Aggie head coach Ivan Fernandez.

Last time out in El Paso, the Crimson and White jumped out to an early 1-0 lead over UTEP after wins at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles. Senior Manon Sylvain and sophomore Annemieke Witte earned the crucial doubles point in extra games with a 9-8 victory at the No. 2 position.

Aggie senior Natalia Salum improved to 9-1 in singles this season with an easy 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 4 singles. Fellow co-captain Sylvain improved to 5-4 for the Aggies at the No. 1 position this season after a 6-1, 6-3 win as the second Aggie off the court. Sophomore Ros-Polly Nguyen clinched the match at 4-1 with a hard-fought 7-6, 7-6 win at No. 5 singles.

Sylvain is currently ranked No. 17 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Mountain Regional rankings.
