Las Cruces, N.M.-The University of New Mexico women's tennis team prepares to host Western Athletic Conference opponent Louisiana Tech for a vital conference match on Saturday, April 16 at 11:00 a.m. (MT).
The Aggies are looking to bounce back after a road trip to Reno, Nev., where NM State lost a close 5-2 match to Nevada on Friday, April 8, and another 5-2 loss against Boise State on Saturday, April 9.
Louisiana Tech is just one of two conference opponents left on the schedule for the Aggies. The outcome of the match against Louisiana has the potential to affect the Aggies' seeding for the conference tournament.
NM State is currently 9-7 overall and 1-3 in the WAC with a win over Utah State and losses to Idaho, Nevada and Boise State.
Louisiana Tech is currently 10-6 overall and 0-3 in the WAC with losses to Fresno State, Idaho and Hawai'i.
Last season NM State decidedly defeated Louisiana Tech 4-0 on April 2, 2010.
Junior Natalia Salum and freshman Annemieke Witte enter the weekend on good hot streaks. Salum's singles loss to Nevada broke an 8-match winning streak up to that date. Salum is 8-2 over her last 10 singles matches and Witte is 7-3 over her last 10 singles matches.
Salum and freshman Ros-Polly Nguyen look to improve their success playing together in doubles. The pair of Aggies leads the team in doubles wins with an 11-3 record and is currently on a 3-match winning streak.
