Albuquerque, N.M.-The women's tennis team of New Mexico State University swept both matches this weekend by defeating Montana State University 6-1 on Saturday, Feb. 12.

The victory over MSU gave NM State two victories over the weekend.  NM State defeated UNM 4-3 the previous day on Friday, Feb. 11.  The Aggies have extended their winning streak to four, which is the longest dual meet winning streak for the Aggies since 2008.  NM State is now off to a 4-1 start, which is the best start the women's tennis program has had since 2006.

The Aggies dominated in almost every aspect of the match, winning all three doubles matches and winning five of the six possible singles matches.

"I am very proud of how the team is fighting in ever match," said head tennis coach Ivan Fernandez.  "They have really come together as a team."

NM State started off the day by sweeping all doubles matches.  Senior Isabela Kulaif and freshman Annemieke Witte defeated Charlotta Hjalmarsson and Paulina Lopez 8-5 in the No. 1 match.  Junior Manon Sylvain and sophomore Jodie Williams followed up by defeating Jennifer Coll and Andrea De La Torre 8-2 in the No. 2 match, and junior Natalia Salum and freshman Ros-Polly Nguyen defeated Ellie Crum and Wena Tsan 8-3.

The Aggies received dominant performances all the way down the lineup.  Not a single Aggie victory reached more than two sets.

Sylvain, recently moving up to the No. 1 spot, defeated Hjalmarsson 6-3, 6-3.  Sophomore Ginet Pinero defeated Tsan 6-1, 6-0, for the most dominating performance by an Aggie in singles competition for the day.

The youth from the Aggies came through with dominating performances on the day.  Witte defeated De La Torre 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 3 match and Williams defeated Lopez 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 4 match.   Ros-Polly rounded out the wins for the Aggies with a 6-4, 7-6 win over Coll in the No. 5 match.

NM State also defeated rival UNM during the weekend in a tough-fought 4-3 victory.  The two wins put the Aggies at 4-1 as they prepare for the upcoming weekend in Las Cruces where they will host three teams.

The Aggies will play host to Northern Colorado, Seattle and Northern Arizona this upcoming weekend of Feb. 18-20.  NM State will face Northern Colorado on Friday, Feb. 18, Seattle on Saturday, Feb. 19, and Northern Arizona on Sunday, Feb. 20.
