LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The New Mexico State women’s tennis team got back to its winning ways with a 4-0 win over Western New Mexico on Wednesday, April 2. The Aggies took the doubles point and quickly won three singles matches for the win to improve to a 7-11 record.

The No. 2 Aggie duo, sophomore Ashvarya Shrivastava and senior Annemieke Witte, teamed up for an 8-0 win in doubles play which improves their season record to 9-6 this season. The other Aggie win came at the third spot when freshmen Marie-Pier Thiffault and Gabrielle Joyce won 8-0 over their WNMU opponents.

The Aggies needed just three singles wins for the team victory and those came at the No. 3, 5 and 6 spots. Junior Susana Alcaraz won 6-0, 6-0 at the third court, while sophomore Chloe Jolliff won her match at the fifth spot in matching 6-0 sets.

The third Aggie win was from Mia Brandt at the No. 6 spot in straight sets (6-0, 6-1). The other three matches went unfinished as NM State had already claimed four straight points.

The Aggies take the rest of the week off before ending the regular season by hosting Arkansas State on April 11 at 2 p.m. and Idaho on April 13 at 9 a.m. The conference match versus the Vandals is Senior Day and the two aggie seniors, Witte and Ros-Polly Nguyen will be honored between singles and doubles play.
