Release:  02/26/2014

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The New Mexico State women’s tennis team will hit the road for three matches this weekend.  The Aggies will start the road trip with a matchup versus Stephen F. Austin in Nacagdoches, Texas, on Friday, Feb. 28, before heading to Houston to face Rice on Saturday, March 1, and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Sunday, March 2.

Friday’s match in Nacagdoches is set for an 11 a.m. (MT) start, while both matches in Houston are scheduled for a 10 a.m. (MT) start.

The Aggies head to the weekend sitting at 4-5 in dual matches this spring.  NM State is coming off an impressive 3-1 homestand, but lost its last match, to Abilene Christian, at the NM State Tennis Center, 4-3.  The Aggies will be looking to improve on a 1-4 road record this spring.

Stephen F. Austin has a 2-4 overall record and is also coming off a 4-3 loss.  Friday’s match will be the home opener for the Lumberjacks as a previous home match was cancelled due to inclement weather.

Rice and TAMCC, meanwhile, both have five wins this spring.  The Rice Owls are 5-4, including 2-1 at home, and are coming off a trip to Alabama where they split a couple matches, beating Auburn before losing to Alabama.

The TAMCC Islanders sit at 5-2 in the spring.  The Islanders are 0-1 while playing in neutral sites, which will be the case when they face NM State on Sunday.  Their previous match before Sunday’s match was also postponed due to inclement weather.

After the Texas trip, the Aggies will have a few weeks off of match play before facing rivals New Mexico and UTEP the weekend of March 21-23.
