LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Head coach Ivan Fernandez announced that Susana Alcaraz, a transfer from Northwood University, signed a Financial Aid Agreement to play with the New Mexico State women's tennis team during the 2013-14 season.
"We are very fortunate to have signed Susie," Fernandez said. "She was being recruited by several other top programs and I am glad that she chose New Mexico State. She will make a great addition to our program next year."
The Aguascalientes, Mexico native joins the Aggies from Northwood University in Michigan after playing with the Timberwolves the past two seasons. In her first two seasons with the Timberwolves, Alcaraz held a 33-3 singles record at the No. 1 position. She teamed up for a 33-3 doubles record at the top spot as well during her time at Northwood.
She helped Northwood to back-to-back regular season and tournament titles in the GLIAC and was named Player of the Year in the league in 2012 and Rookie of the Year in 2011.
Entering as a junior in the fall, Alcaraz plans to major in hotel, restaurant and tourism management and international business. She currently holds a 3.7 GPA, which falls in nicely with the Aggies current academic success. NM State held the highest team GPA of all Aggie teams during the fall semester.
